Brewster & Company opens a new factory. The building is five stories high, plus basement, and is situated at the north-west corner of Broadway and Forty-seventh Street.

The basement is occupied by the blacksmith shop, engine-room, machine-shop, and stock department.
The first floor is used as a repository for new work and for carriages awaiting repairs.
A trim shop is located on the second floor.
A body-making wood shop takes up the third floor with a small stock area.
The paint-shop for carriage parts occupies the entire fourth floor.
The fifth floor is devoted to finishing.
